"A Mother - Documenting Mothers"
Mother to three, Cristi Sara is a Photographer and Graduate of Film, living in the East of England. Working across still imagery (on both analogue film & digital formats), she explores themes of 'Motherhood': documenting Mothers and Women from across the world. Cristi’s work explores the raw, intimate, and deeply personal experience of how it often feels to Mother and celebrates Mothers at the forefront of many advertising and branding campaigns.
Her love of analogue photography traces back to a childhood steeped in the soft grain of 35mm film and the gentle hum of a VHS tape rewinding. Born in the late 80s, she quietly watched her own parents capture fleeting moments with quiet devotion, planting the seeds of a lifelong love for photography, particularly that of 35mm film. Her mother, often behind the lens, became the quiet archivist of childhood: capturing birthdays, dance performances, family pets and everyday moments. From this, a deep fascination took root and it wasn't long before Cristi wanted a camera of her own. She began to make images, first on a family point + shoot then a Polaroid: chasing the light of her own little world and documenting animals, toys and family. That child-like wonder with film deepened into study: analogue photography in college, film studies at University.
Like raising a child, shooting on film requires presence, patience, and trust in the process. There is no instant playback, no chance to retake a moment. The flaws become part of the story. Each frame carries weight, softness, and truth.
Through her lens, Cristi seeks to create images that feel lived-in, unpolished yet poetic, a gentle hark back to her own nostalgic childhood memories on film. Her work often reflects the beauty found in the everyday, the in-between, and the often unseen moments of motherhood.
Cristi's work was selected for exhibition in London, at the Holy Art Gallery 'Art of Connection' show. "Golden Milk - 800 Days" was also selected by US magazine FLOAT - 'Whispering Shadows' online gallery and titled "Best Of PhotoVogue'.
Her photographs of Wild Flowers were recently published by Writerly Magazine.
